Good to know in the USA
- Postpaid plans from Verizon, AT&T and T-Mobile involve a credit check; without an SSN or US credit history expect a deposit or refusal.
- Prepaid plans (Visible, Cricket, US Mobile, Mint, Metro) need no SSN or credit check; many sign up online by eSIM in minutes.
- Calling the UK is usually not included: T-Mobile charges $3/min unless you add $15/mo; Visible+ Pro includes 500 international minutes.
- Bring an unlocked phone that supports US bands; WhatsApp and FaceTime calls to the UK over data are free.
