Good to know in Portugal

  • You need a NIF (Portuguese tax number) to sign a home-internet contract. Bring your passport and proof of address, and often an IBAN for direct debit.
  • MEO, NOS and Vodafone normally tie you in for 24 months (fidelização). Shorter or no-loyalty deals cost more each month and charge €280–€340 setup.
  • Leaving during the loyalty period means paying a penalty, roughly the discounts you received. Moving house can also trigger fees, so check before signing.
  • DIGI (and the cheap brands WOO, UZO and Amigo) cost €7–€20 with only 3 months' loyalty, but are sold mainly where DIGI has its own fibre. NOWO no longer takes new customers since DIGI bought it.

Prices checked 11 Oct 2026. Prices include IVA at the mainland rate of 23%. IVA is lower in Madeira and the Azores, so bills there can be a little cheaper. MEO, NOS and Vodafone prices assume the usual €1/month e-invoice and direct-debit discount. Providers change prices and offers often, and not every plan is sold at every address, so check on the provider’s site before you sign up. We don’t take commission and no provider pays to be listed. How this calculator works

  • Tell it how many people live with you and how you use the internet: it suggests the speed you need
  • Choose a contract length and your city, as providers differ by area
  • It works out what each plan really costs over 12 or 24 months, including set-up fees and any cheap first months, and puts the cheapest plan that’s fast enough first
  • Every plan links to the provider’s own page, with the date we checked the price
