Good to know in Australia
- Your address's nbn connection type (FTTP, HFC, FTTN, etc.) decides which speeds you can get; 500 Mbps+ tiers generally need FTTP or HFC. Check your address first.
- Most nbn plans have no lock-in, but 'free' modems usually carry a payout or non-return fee (about $200) if you leave within 24–36 months.
- If the nbn is already connected, activation is usually free and takes a few days; new builds or extra work may need a technician and a one-off $300 New Development charge.
- Intro discounts (typically 6 months) are common and then revert to full price; providers state plan prices may change.
Prices checked 11 Oct 2026. All prices include 10% GST, as Australian consumer prices must by law; what you see is what you pay each month. Providers change prices and offers often, and not every plan is sold at every address, so check on the provider’s site before you sign up. We don’t take commission and no provider pays to be listed. How this calculator works
- Tell it how many people live with you and how you use the internet: it suggests the speed you need
- Choose a contract length
- It works out what each plan really costs over 12 or 24 months, including set-up fees and any cheap first months, and puts the cheapest plan that’s fast enough first
- Every plan links to the provider’s own page, with the date we checked the price
