Taxable income is your salary less the 2026 specific deduction for employment income (€4,587), or your social security if that’s higher. It doesn’t apply the minimum-income protection (mínimo de existência), so it overstates tax on low salaries (roughly under €15,000–20,000 a year). Doesn’t include IRS Jovem (the relief for younger workers), the IFICI regime for people moving to Portugal (sometimes called “NHR 2.0”) or allowances for dependants.
