- Keep your passport and entry permit on you, and photos of both on your phone
- Don’t pay a deposit on a long lease until you know when you can register it
- Use the time for things that don’t need the ID: area viewings, school visits, the Metro
Before you fly
- Ask HR how long their visa process usually takes, and plan 3–4 weeks of temporary housing
- Bring enough money to live on for a month without a UAE bank account, on a card with low foreign-exchange fees
- Don’t commit to a long lease you can’t register until your ID is through
- Attest your degree and marriage and birth certificates before you leave: you’ll need them for family visas
