Bringing your medicines
Some everyday UK medicines are controlled in the UAE. You can usually bring them, but only with the right paperwork.
In 30 seconds
- Common UK medicines such as co-codamol, diazepam, tramadol and ADHD medicines are controlled
- Apply online for a free permit before you travel: allow up to 5 working days
- CBD is illegal in any form, including skincare and vape refills
Is your medicine controlled?
Common UK examples that need a permit include:
- Codeine, including co-codamol, and dihydrocodeine
- Tramadol
- Diazepam and zopiclone
- Pregabalin and gabapentin
- ADHD medicines such as methylphenidate and lisdexamfetamine
The lists change. Ask your GP or pharmacist for the generic name of each medicine and check the current list. Lists change

- Apply for the permit at least a week before you fly
- Ask your GP for a letter about your treatment
